Making connections is also an essential building task that Gee describes in establishing Discourse. It relates one thing to another and as Gee states, “we use language to render certain things connected or relevant (or not) to other things, that is, to build connections or relevance” (35).  Put something in here about explaining this quote……………………………….For example, Hass writes about how Eliza grew by her senior year, she states, ““By her senior year, she often viewed texts as multiply connected – to authors and scientists, to other readers, and to historical circumstances – and even demonstrated some understanding of her own connections both to scientific texts and to the objects of her own research” (69). Eliza realized the connections of the text by applying rhetorical reading. Talk about her making more connections and why this is important in the scientific discourse In conclusion, each of Gee’s building tasks is important in the scientific discourse and helps define it. Making connections is also an essential building task that Gee describes in establishing Discourse.  They relate one thing to another and are the bridge between identities, relationships, politics and more. Gee states, “we use language to render certain things connected or relevant (or not) to other things, that is, to build connections or relevance” (35).  Gee is stressing the importance of language and how we use it to make connections, and how in a Discourse, these connections need to be relevant and applicable. An example of this can be found in Hass’s article, she writes about how Eliza’s skills grew by her senior year, stating, “By her senior year, she often viewed texts as multiply connected – to authors and scientists, to other readers, and to historical circumstances – and even demonstrated some understanding of her own connections both to scientific texts and to the objects of her own research” (69). Eliza realized the connections of the text by applying rhetorical reading and even began making her own. She used the language in the texts to view the bigger picture which is an essential practice in the Scientific Discourse. Eliza is using the building tasks of practice to identify the building task of connections within the Discourse as well.
